The River Fording
The book is about a family trying to cross a river. One of the characters breaks his leg, but doesn't tell anybody that he's in any pain. A pharmacis mixes concrete with water and pours it over cash's broken leg as a brake. But because it's concrete, it dries and cuts off the circulation to his leg which just makes everything weigh worse.
