The Frou Frou Look in the 80s
Fashion design attempted to push a look called high femininity on the female consumer populace. This was very much in reaction to the sort of androgyny that dressed for success in the preppy handbook we're advocating for. Women rejected it and mass rejected it because it was just too extreme. In the 80s, by and large, women decided not to care about keeping up with fashion.
