Is There a Danger to Literary Theory?

A lot of literary criticism has its roots in like the high criticism. The German schools that approach the Bible as a text that could be compared to other religious texts. And so there are dangers to this sort of these sorts of theories but there is a lot of usefulness to it as well. Would I encourage anybody give their life to literary theory?
