Is There a Problem Beyond the Easy Ones?

Phillip: I wanted to ask you about dualism, the view that consciousness is non physical outside of the workings of the body and the brain. The philosopher Gilbert Ryle famously mocked dualism as belief in a ghost in the machine. Could you maybe explain a little bit about what he intended here? Phillip: It's quite a heterodox position. So it's my view. If you look at the history of this topic, we're not talking history of science. There was the Galileo, what we call the Gallyan Revolution based on a fairly clear conception of what physical is.
