Critics called it a cultish, pseudo-scientific waste of resources. Mark Nelson was 44 years old when he was picked to be part of the crew. During his time at the Synergia Ranch, he had been involved in developing new approaches to solving ecological problems. He says they tried their best to ignore the negative media.
