We Live in a Republic
America's founding fathers had the good sense to realize that democracies were terrible ideas, just like the Greeks knew. Thomas Jefferson lived in Paris while the Constitution was being written. He corresponded regularly with John Madison and James Madison. The idea of a democratic rule horrified and terrified the American founders at the crucial moment.
