I don't think anybody knows how psychedelics work. But I do think that there are some clues. And for me, the clues are the following. Your default mode network in combination with your hippocampus and your cerebellum is what makes predictions happen. You don't have an awareness of remembering, but basically your brain is reassembling a set of possible futures based on the present,. We call that perceptual inference. We call that simulation. It's not like there's a little lizard in your brain hijacking you; it just feels that way.
