Renters and new homeowners could be squeezed even further. Casey Chambers, executive director of Anglicare Australia says the housing market is pretty grim. She says people are having to cut out what are not really considered 'discretionary' items like food or car insurance. People who have somewhere to live are doing it tough but they're couch surfing with friends or moving into cars and tents.
