It was I think 101 uses of a dead cat when originally published in the UK. It wasn't published in the US until the early 80s. And it was a time when, as you point out, cats were very weirdly kind of in the public humor zeitgeist. Even to British listeners write in and defend yourselves. Does that sound right to you?
