Episode #4 - Real Ninjas?
Our Fake History
00:00
The Rise of the Ninja
The number one goal of the ninja was always survival. For samurai's, taking your own life was seen as deeply heroic and honorable. For ninjas, committing Sipoku would be like admitting that you were a terrible ninja. The most famous ninja stories all tend to be connected to the rise of two extremely important figures in Japan's history. Oda Nabunaga and Tokugawa Aiyasu. We're going to look at a few stories of ninja exploits and try to determine which should be believed and which should be understood as pure legend. All of these stories are coming directly from John Mann's excellent book, Ninja, a thousand years of the Shadow Warrior.
