Singleman and Guthridge launched these reverse freedom rides through local segregationist groups called white citizens councils. They were basically the cuklux clan without the hoods, and with the veneer of southern kindness. Their strategy was cloak racism in respectability. So did that actually work? Yes and no. Several hundred african americans, mostly from arkansas, and louisiana, excepted the north bound tickets to new york, new hampshire, los angeles, idaho.
