Almost 95% of the world's rare earth supply comes from one place. In 2010, China decided to cap its exports of rare earth. Technology companies who depend on rare earth elements for their flat screen and hard drive production lines freaked out. The American government freaked out even more because every weapons system that we have in this country depends on Earth.
