Reincarnation - Isn't a Person at All?

In the indian material, from very early on, what does that transition? Isn't a person at all. I mean, the western fascination with immortality, living on beyond death, getting more life didn't really make sense in the indian context. As ram said, the person who gets to live the new life you in any solid sense, and you're not going to remember and get the benefit of another life. And i think there's a strong idea that to be reborn is not terribly a great goal for many people in that culture.
