Kepler's Second Law and Newton's Third Law
The Copernican model and Kepler's laws were accepted because they were so much simpler. They did away with the need for these complex epicycles. Newton connected the idea of you know apples forming from a tree with planets rotating around the Sun. And in doing so he formulated, obviously he's universal law of gravitation.
