The Root of Our Trouble
We act not because we have chosen to, but because we have to. In a spiritual sense, the object of our attach ments and eddictions become idols. We give them our time, energy and attention even when we are struggling to rid ourselves of them. But in the face of our attachments, we are clinging, rasping and fearfully self absorbed. This is the root of our trouble. It's also what the writers of the new testament call our flesh and slavery to it.
