The Role of Campaign Finance Reform in Presidential Campaigns
I think it was a winnable race. It's very difficult to beat an incumbent president. The role of campaign finance reform and the absence of that has changed in my experience, presidential campaigns tremendously. If Hillary Clinton were president today, she'd be favored by that. Trump won with 461% of the vote, Romney lost with 47.2%. So why did he do better? Well, two reasons: He got more votes under one point than Romney; also there was an increase in non-white turnout.
