There was an improvement in this flow media dilation with those cocoa beverages, whether they had sugar or not. We know that cocoa flavonols have a particular effect on blood pressure through increased nitric oxide synthesis and vasodilation. But while there was probably just that effect in isolation of the sugar sweetened cocoa beverage, there was still a benefit on the endothelial function as measured through flow mediated dilation.
