Brain Computer Interfaces - Neuroplasticity and Machine Learning
The brain is remarkably plastic, especially in early years. It's that plasticity which allows information from different modalities to kind of come to be processed in parts of the brain that wouldn't normally process it. In Braille readers for example, you often see that parts of the visual cortex come to code for somatosensation. The real challenge with BCI is actually a really mundane one which is that it's actually quite difficult and dangerous to have a chronic invasive implant in your brain. And there needs to be an aperture through which signals can get out.
