Some Gnostic texts may well have been held as sacred to one Gnostic text or another. Church Fathers had a real problem with these Gnostics precisely because they were using the books the proto-orthodox were using as their scripture. The Apostle Paul was popular in some Gnostic circles because they thought that he was a Gnostic and that he was teaching Gnostic teachings.
