The quarterback of Gallaudet, the deaf signer, who invented the huddle. He would do that so that nobody could see what they were signing to each other. And it spread from Gallaudet to football everywhere to where now the huddle is ubiquitous. It developed out of necessity for the deaf team and it spread to the hearing teams.
