"I chose to give myself all the time I needed to mentally detach," she says. "When you are able to detach from that primary caregiver, it becomes a lot easier to stand up for yourself and other relationships" The mental detachment process was the longest and hardest of her career so far. She now works with people who have been abused by their parents or guardians.
