The Emancipation Proclamation Changed the Purpose of the Civil War
President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on December 8th, 1863. The proclamation applied to enslave people in Confederate States in rebellion against the United States But left slavery untouched in the loyal border states of the Union. Despite its limitations the EmanCipation Proclamation changed the purpose of the war What began as a struggle to preserve the Union Transformed into an effort to end slavery and reshape the southern social and economic system.
