Fridhamal and the Vandals of North Africa

Fridhamal was a young man coming of age amidst an army of vandals that had cut its teeth raiding across Gaul, Hispania, and the western Mediterranean for literally decades. The sheer violence of the vandal invasion stands out in every source, whether contemporary or written later. As he burned and pillaged his way across North Africa, that's what Fridhamal would have learned. They were remarkably successful at it, and by 435 the vandals controlled the entire North African heartland from Straits of Gibraltar to modern Tunisia.
