The General Slocum Disaster
One thousand 21 people died that day, the worst disaster in the history of new york city. The hospital staff received a visit and a special commendation from e german empress augusta victoria. In july of the following year, another excursion ship named the sirius, filled with a thousand passengers, ran aground at almost the same area of shore line as the slocum. Although thankfully, no injuries were reported.
