The General Slocum Disaster
One thousand 21 people died that day, the worst disaster in the history of new york city. The hospital staff received a visit and a special commendation from e german empress augusta victoria. Some writers suggested building a memorial to the victims of the general slocumb out on north brother island,. But this never came to pass. In july of the following year, another excursion ship named the sirius, filled with a thousand passengers, ran aground at almost the same area of shore line as the slocum. Although thankfully, no injuries were reported.
