The Death of Amy Levy

In the weeks following levy's death, there was speculation about what had led her to take her own life that circulated in the press. Her friend clementina black stepped in to try to set the records straight. She wrote to the athenaeum: "Will you spare me a few lines, in order to do justice both to the dead and the living? I cannot imagine anything which would have caused more pain and indignation to miss levy than the circulation of such reports"
