The Business Model of a Department Store Was Under Attack for Many Years

In the late 90s, you were made chief merchant at Federated Merchandising. Your job was to find commonalities so we could do larger buys among our various buying groups. And also ease the merge between Macy's and Federated. So I'm curious. Was there any inkling at that point that big retail stores like Macy's might have some headwinds down the road or at the time?
