The US's Shareholder Power in the World Trade System

The United States has used its shareholder power to shape the policies and activities of MDBs in indirect support of American foreign policy. This is why the financial elites in this country, those that lead both of our corporate political parties are devoted to the world trade system. It's how they exert power on a global scale. Some countries are unhappy with this global system, which gives the United States majority shares in so many of its institutions, along with veto power.
