The Anxiety of Economic Dependence
In the caribbean, eric williams pushed for federated government there. Ten west indian states initially were members of a west indian federation in africa. Gana, guinea, mali, all included provisions in their constitutions to surrender their sovereignty to a union of african states when and if it was created. The anxiety here for them is that these forms of economic dependence mean that you're constantly open to the possible en encroachment of foreign actors. This could be former imperial imperial powers, or new super powers, or they may be corporate forms.
