The effect is kind of like if you were watching a dance her under a strow blight. Whatever causes a tornado to spawn, it often happens when that dancer is in the dark. A lot of times this process is either invisible or opaque. And that's really why tornado warnings are only sent out when a tornado is seemingly detected.
