Jonathan Safran Foer: Many of us develop behaviors around our senses over years or decades. They have a very specific effect on us that in some way is beneficial to us. He says when you become aware of that, you can be more intentional about creating the effect. So for me, a busy coffee shop but with noise-reducing headphones on,. so I hear it, but it's sort of like, it's muffled. It's not super intelligible, but I actually like that sound. And then there are people who will do different things depending on exactly the nature of the task.
