Do You Think the Rule of Law Is Always Inherently Moral?

The government has recently moved to repeal the convictions of people punished under historic laws for consentual gay secs. So if we agree as a moral principle that people shouldn't be punished for having done nothing wrong, shouldn't juries be able to reflect that value which we hold as a society? Will that is fundamentally political athought for us and how we wanted to run our society? One of the problems is we still don't really know why the jury did what it did.
