A Remarkable Case of Refusal of Order of the British Empire
Even those who do refuse if you look in the records there are some people like C.S. Lewis and David Bowie who have said no but we don't really know why. Then there's this instance of Benjamin Zephaniah who is a poet who is born in Great Britain he's from Birmingham but he's a Rastafari so I assume he has a West Indian heritage. In 2001 he wrote a very scathing poem about how people of of West Indian heritage are sort of used as props in Britain yes. Two years later in 2003 the British government offered him in obe exactly after he wrote this poem which was kind of two-tier honor.
