The postmodern belief that discarded ideas means there is no objective reality is more wrong than all the wrong theories combined. The reason has to do with the relation of the known to the unknown. We can only get evidence, you know, for or against, but never prove. There's a great new book by Paul Davies called The Demon Machine in which he calls on us to take particles as fundamental as life and boot them up into consciousness. And why is it that we believe reductionism will actually work? I just keep coming with different examples.
