The Role of First Nations in Claiming Citizenship
Most of these groups are not federally recognized. So legally speaking, they're not First Nations. They get a card, and then they have to go and try to get them. I think the point at which a journalist is doing an investigation usually comes after many, many years of indigenous people having their own suspicions or asking questions. There should be mechanisms to check that people's claims are truthful.
