The US Navy's Freedom of Navigation for Chinese Chinese Sea

China now is the world's largest trading nation. With ports and railroads in place, China can export more goods to those regions. 80% of the Chinese energy supply come from the middle east travels through the Straits of Malacca up the South China Sea into the Chinese ports. This global connectivity is good economically, but it also makes strategic sense because US Navy has always made it clear that it intends to choke off the lifeline to China's foreign trade. And so the whole point of the Belt and Road Initiative is to build out networks which don't go through one choke point that US Navy could just choke off.
