The Problem With the Visual Ray Theory

Air is transparent because it does not block our vision. When something intercepts the visual ray, then we see it instead of seeing through it. For this reason, Alcinde tells us, it is the element Earth that gives rise to visibility in objects. Even dense objects are seen only when their surfaces are illuminated.
