The Paradox of Being a Better Critic
When you learn how to create tasteful things, it actually almost pulls you away from that sense of magic. To be able to create it, you have to be a bit more cynical in my opinion. And so there's an element of having to dig into the weeds, understand the mechanics and that makes it less magical. Whereas I think you're right, if you're a critic and you're watching films, you can always just enjoy the output. You don't have to think about the input as much. Probably understanding the input helps you to be a better critic in some senses. But actually there's a sense of wondering someone was able to create this, and that's an impressive feat
