Is There a Hero in the Book, or Is It an Antagonist?

One of the things I found most interesting about the book is the kind of, almost the way it refuses to center its antagonist. It seemed to me that there was something very important about that,. That these sort of antagonistic men should not be at the center and their actions should not be driving the story. Yeah, that's a conscious thing that I did, but maybe too heavy-handed? You know what I'm saying? There are real people doing real things, putting real pressure on them, you know, exacting this kind of pressure on them... But they're also just representing that sort of atmosphere of oppression we often feel as women.
