In 2010, an African team has never made it past the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Every four years, five African teams qualify for the World Cup; only two had ever qualified before in 2010. "There's again this sort of de-sporic proximity, this collective sense of Africanness," says CNN's John Sutter.
