Is Religion Necessary?

In opposition to materialism, do you think that people need a religion in their lives? Or if not religion, at least certain systems of value and institutions that promote their social lives. Do you think we need to have certain values and be part of certain institutions for our lives to be meaningful? A, i don't think it is necessary. Then again, for many people it is helpful to have institutions, and it is something worth checking. But even in solitariness, life can be meaningful and without relation to institutions.
