Ferdinand Magellan

Ferdinand Magellan was born around 1480 in northern Portugal to minor nobility. He and his brother Diego were sent to Lisbon and became pages at the Portuguese court. In 1505 he took on an assignment in a 22-ship expedition bound for India, along with his brother Diego. The mission was to establish and maintain trading posts in the region.
