The Effects of Rubella on the Immune System
In grown humans, one of the main effects of rubella that causes symptoms is direct cell death. But in the case of the developing fetus, that doesn't seem to be a main mechanism by which damage is induced. And here's an on top of that, we think that at least part of the reason that a fetus is susceptible when it is and part of why they're born with congenital rubella syndrome.
