How to Identify Norse Words

Linguists have to rely upon a variety of techniques to piece together some of that earlier history. Some norse words can be identified by comparing english texts to later norse texts in scandinavia. The identification of norse words is tricky because both languages had the exact same word. Other times they had similar versions of a common germanic root word. So give and get both come from the vikings. And while we're at it, the phrase give and take wouldn't exist without the norse influence.
