The only uncertaof war in american history was the first and last one, the via nam war. I personally do not believe that resorting to force is a manifestation of success. It's a manifestation of failure. If you have to apply force to solve differences between reasoning human beings, you have failed in that bact. The military has become supersensitive to the political consequences of indiscriminate civilian injury and death due to the application fire power. No one understands the ugliness of war better than those who wage it. That's one of the paradoxes. Those who inflict suffering on other people professionally are probably more aware of that often than those who are watching it on
