Spengler's notion of the west as a coherent society, a coherent civilization. To day, it must be so familiar to us that it's hard to imagine that this was really new way of thinking in the 19 twenties. But let's say we put aside for a second spangler's notion about faustian culture, or the faustian man, right? That's awfully squishy. And we have to ask, well, is there something more concrete, something more graspable, historically grounded, that we can point to and say, this is what we mean by western this is western society?
