The Government's Accountability of Corporate Profits

S&P earnings, it's not any state secret, are heavily influenced by share buybacks. The government data are showing a much bleaker picture of what's happening with corporate profits than S&P. In fact, I think by the government's accounting, we've been in a profits recession for three quarters whereas S&P sees it as only two quarters in.
