The aim of conservation should be to continue to have self-sustaining, interacting, evolving ecosystems in nature. This is while accepting pragmatically that we have a growing and increasingly demanding human population. That's why we need conservation, because we need to find effective ways to try to maximize the conservation of those functioning ecosystems. We're not succeeding at the level that we need to succeed - so I think this is how we're going forward.
