Once it became worth millions of dollars to be ranked number one in google, an arms race began. More than three thousand people were hand tweaking the way Google was scoring different pages. The idea was that for a thousand or five thousand, you could game the system so that you would get more lenks than you deserved. It also undermines their responsibility.
