The Decadent Movement
In Our Time: Culture
The Politics of Decadence
I disagree with Neil that there's only one decadent novel in English. Arthur Macken's The Hill of Dreams, which I mentioned, is the great decadent novel for me. Deconance is also deeply conservative and deeply reactionary. It wants to suggest that popular taste is terrible. And so you get some really conservative politics amongst decadent writers. Someone like Evelyn War who was an arch-conservative still has this sort of legacy of decadence. They embraced what other people would see as popular, degenerate culture.
