The State Has to Do More, Isn't It?
John Defterios: This is very, very bad news for Rishi Sunak and his ministers. It seems to me probably more than anything that we've seen over the last sort of year, a year and a half, it really spells doom for the government. But I don't see how they can sort of turn this round to their political advantage. We need to get a lot of treatment and care out of hospitals to relieve the pressure on that bit of the system. The only thing there's any time to do is throw a bunch of money at what he doesn't have and isn't being spent. So Sunak is inheriting the sort of distills problems of his predecessors.
